The Freeman Stage Calendar

The castle of a bumbling ogre has mysteriously arrived in the clouds high over Pleasant Village.  Jack trades the family cow for magic beans that grow a stalk tall enough to reach the ogre’s clouds.  The clever lad climbs the beanstalk and finds a way to stop the ogre and save the village.  Two performers play all of the characters in the fun-filled, fifty-five minute show designed for all family members age 3 and up. Community Event.  Free for all.

Formed in 1996, the Chesapeake Brass Band is a British-style brass band comprised of amateur and professional musicians from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware.  The band performs a varied repertoire of contemporary and traditional brass music.  Community Event.  Free for all.  Please bring your own chairs.

The WACONGO Dance Company is a traditional ensemble of master drummers, musicians and dancers, former residents of the Democratic Republic of Congo, who perform the ancestral songs and dances of Central Africa.  This performance of WACONGO Dance Company is partially supported by a grant from Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour, a program developed and funded by The Heinz Endowments; the William Penn Foundation; the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency; and The Pew Charitable Trusts; and administered by Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation.

Three women plus twelve instruments equals one good time when Simple Gifts takes the stage.  Drawing on an impressive variety of ethnic folk styles, this award-winning trio plays everything from lively Irish jigs and down-home American reels to hard-driving Klezmer frailachs and haunting Gypsy melodies!

Eugene is a super-friendly, super-strong, super-exuberant monster who is misunderstood by nearly everyone…except young children.  Along with his friends, award-winning recording artist Yosi & puppeteer/actor, Johnny Beirne, Eugene can be your friend too!  Songs, stories & great humor bring kids closer to understanding that being different is not just good; it’s fantastic!  Community Event.  Free for all.  Seating will be provided.

GO Roadshow is “a musical street spectacle on wheels”. This show-making machine is a 34-foot long monster truck retrofitted with truck-horn calliope, a wall made of rotors and a spinning grand piano that is played while it wheels around! GO is a music and art-mobile!

It seemed like a normal school-day for Jasper until…Darn!  He loses his milk money.  Could it have fallen into that large hole?  There’s only one way to find out.  And that leads to a string of daring adventures and some close encounters with strange creatures from a world Jasper never knew existed.  Will Jasper get his milk money back? We invite you to a White Party with lush white cocktails, fabulous food, live auction, and dancing under the stars to benefit the Joshua M. Freeman Foundation! Casual white beach attire requested. A “white party” is a theme used in appreciation of the summer season, where the decorations, food, and attire are typically white in color.  Held at the oceanfront Indian River Life-Saving Station in Rehoboth Beach.

The Stims are a dynamic and organic duo that add their own unique flair to a repertoire of songs that appeal to all ages and include some of their own works of art into the mix as well.  Their set lists run the gamut, including songs from Talking Heads, Paul Simon and Johnny Cash to Sublime, Dispatch and Bob Marley among many others. The evening will begin and end with our headliner, with local artists performing in between.  Community Event.  Free for all.

Nora Jane Struthers performs her material with a voice as pretty and homespun as the vintage dresses she favors on stage.  This five-piece band led by Nora Jane’s undulating vocals is a self-described “traveling carnival of Appalachian roots-rock,” which sums up the band’s enjoyment of their music. Nora Jane Struthers & The Party Line make bluegrass accessible with a modern vocal sound and simplistic themes that make for a universally appealing musical brand.

Susan Werner plays and writes an almost impossibly wide range of music, but what ties it all together is her love of language, her passionate intensity, and an unshakable commitment to the stories she tells in song. Susan started in opera, moved to folk, explored jazz and pop, hit classical, gospel, and country rock, and is now going back to her roots with her tenth and latest album, Hayseed, which digs deep into the field of American farming.  Free for all.  Please bring your own chairs.
