Mrs. Virginia Allen Freeman was born in Irwin, Tennessee to Wert and Mabel Allen. She grew up in the Appalachian Mountains surrounded by four siblings: Drusilla, Reginald, Linda and Louise. A coal miners daughter, she dreamed of a better life beyond the town limits of Lynch, Kentucky. Upon graduating high school she attended Northwestern University and later moved to Washington, DC to attend George Washington University. Among her many adventures in life she continued her career as a secretary, taking a job with the Carl M. Freeman Companies of Montgomery County, Maryland that would change her life. She worked diligently and eventually she began dating, and later married, real estate developer and CEO, Carl M. Freeman.
In recent weeks, the Joshua M. Freeman Foundation has welcomed 4 new members to its staff at the Selbyville, DE office. Those staff members include Sue Sevier as the new Administrative Associate, Robin Spangenberg as the new Operations Manager, Bernadette Dowling as the new Accounting Manager, and Lucinda Williams as the new Development Director.

Patti Grimes, executive director of the Carl M. Freeman and Joshua M. Freeman Foundation, received the 2011 Lighthouse Award at the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Member Celebration & Awards Ceremony. The event, sponsored by Mediacom, was held Sept. 22 at DiFebo’s Bistro on the Green at Bear Trap Dunes in Ocean View. Beebe Medical Center, Delaware Wave and Inclind Inc. were supporting sponsors of this year’s event.
The Lighthouse Award is chosen directly by the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber’s Board of Directors, and recognizes a longtime chamber member that contributes outstanding leadership and devotion to both the chamber and local community. Dale Bellinger, owner of Bellinger’s Jewelers, handcrafts these replicas of the Fenwick Lighthouse and donates this gift each year...

The Freeman Stage at Bayside has been selected by The News Journal & Delaware Online as the feature focus of April 8th "55 Hours" special section. The article, written by Peter Bothum, discusses the origin of the Stage, the upcoming 2011 season, and the economic impact that the Arts have on the state of Delaware.
We invite you to be a part of the Arts! The Freeman Stage at Bayside will officially kickoff the 2011 season on May 28th at the St*ARTS & Stripes Memorial Day Event, featuring Zany Umbrella Circus from noon to 3p.m. Regular weekly performances at The Freeman Stage will commence on June 17th with a performance by the Mid-Atlantic Symphony and will continue throughout the year.
